Best Antivirus Rescue Disks

A majority of the top antivirus providers offer a free bootable recovery disk that can be used to clean your computer after it has been infected. These are Linux-based software that can be used to cleanse the computer of malware if it won’t start or be scanned by the standard antivirus program running on Windows. I would recommend the Kaspersky disc for its ease of use (though it might not work with certain Dell systems).

If you prefer, you can pick up the same features from the Avira and ESET rescue disks which also include a user interface with graphics however, they require an external CD or USB device to boot. Both of these options will search for and decipher any malware that may be present on your computer. However the virus definitions may not be updated as frequently as rescue disks for Linux.

The Trend Micro Rescue Disk is a great alternative. It’s also one of the slimmest disks on this list, with just 70MB. It does not come with an interface that is graphic, but it is fast and offers various options for customization. These include the ability to mount specific files, drive volumes, or even specific folders.

You can also get an effective virus scan using the Comodo rescue disk although it’s not quite as flexibility of the options for Linux above. It’s an extremely effective tool to detect and eliminate the type of viruses that hide in Windows files, and thereby preventing detection by normal diligent boards for efficient management antivirus software. You can choose to use a text-only interface or a full-graphic interface. You can also run a smart scanner or a custom scan.
